Networked Insights is the leader in customer intelligence across the social media landscape. Through a focus on engagement in open online communities, private customer networks, and rich social media discussion data, Networked Insights helps companies understand where customer engagement is occurring, and who is influencing the dialogue. We are looking for an experienced B2B solution sales executive based in San Francisco to join our team. Networked Insights is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin with offices currently in Chicago, New York, and Santa Cruz, CA.

The Director of Business Development will help us expand our client base and promote Networked Insights to national and international clients. A conceptual sales background and track record of success is essential. This person must act as a thought-leader and self-starter, have a strong work ethic, be able to multi-task, and pay great attention to detail. Familiarity with corporate marketing, social media, market research, and/or ecommerce would be beneficial in this role. The goal of this position is to generate interest, secure business meetings, and collaborate with other Networked Insights team members to ensure timely follow through on leads and opportunities to close business.

In this role you will work closely with the CEO of Networked Insights and the VP of Sales & Business Development, as well as a highly talented Client Services and Development team. Networked Insights colleagues rely on each other in an environment of energy, innovation, hard work and good humor.

Qualifications

  • Located or willing to relocate to San Francisco Bay-area
  • Initiative, results-oriented drive and a solid work ethic requiring minimal direction
  • Minimum 5 years experience in business development and sales, 5+ years experience preferred, with demonstrated ability to increase revenue base
  • Experienced and comfortable in a variety of industries, including Fortune 500 companies, the top 500 online retailers, media and publishing companies, business-to-business organizations, and the technology sector
  • Familiarity with market research, consulting, advertising, social media, online retailing and corporate marketing
  • Deep knowledge of one or more industry segments
  • Ability to communicate Networked Insights products and solutions to those unfamiliar with the industry in compelling language
  • Interest in developing relationships with corporate executives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, executive presence, superior poise and judgment
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills; ability to prioritize and manage competing tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to play a leadership role in developing the company's brand and market presence in the target customer segments
  • Proven track record of generating significant new business per year

Responsibilities

  • Translate the value of Networked Insights' solutions to potential clients
  • Communication with prospective and existing clients. This includes restructuring the business development and sales plan and re-establishing connections with existing contacts, as well as networking at conferences and other industry-related functions, prospecting, crafting proactive emails and mailings, and cold calling, among other sales tactics
  • Prospective client research. This includes closely following news events, identifying immediate opportunities, and ensuring timely capitalization of these opportunities
  • Collaboration with the Networked Insights team to follow through on various business opportunities
  • Sales administration. This includes tracking leads and ensuring follow up meetings with potential clients, among other business development and sales related administrative tasks
  • Assessing market requirements, and establishing pricing plans and strategies accordingly
